While running and moderating the Relationship Surgery, I often see people asking what the best dating sites are. Rather than members having to trawl through the site to read individual posts and comments on this topic, I have decided to write a post reviewing the top 10 online dating sites / services.
So without further adoo, lets get right into it.
Top 10 Online Dating Sites
POF is not the prettiest of sites, it is however functional and really effective at doing what it sets out to do. Most of the sites features are still completely free with a few extra features available to upgraded members.
One of the nice things about joining POF is that you don’t feel like you are being exploited like you do on some of the other sites with hidden fees.
With a very simple sign up process, (most questions can be deferred for later), POF offers all of its features at no cost to the user whatsoever, including instant messaging, smiles, compatibility testing and matching, general dating and geographic forums and a hot or not photo rating system.
Plenty of Fish users can also see who has looked at their profile, ban certain types of users from contacting them (such as from certain regions of the world or people only looking for sex), and add people to their personal favorites list.
Match.com is one of the largest dating sites out there. And what does more people mean? That’s right, more choice. So this is a good site for fussy daters.
Another thing that makes it perfect for the specific dater is its ‘Matchwords’ feature, which lets you search for particular words in people’s profiles, meaning you can quickly find people with similar interests.
It’s free to post a profile and search for lovers, you only have to pay when you want to get in touch with someone. Plus, if you don’t find a suitor within six months, they’ll give you six months’ membership for free.
Sounds like they’re pretty sure of themselves right? Right. But they have reason to be. They reckon every year more than 200,000 people find the person they were seeking on their site.
Zoosk is a fun dating site that focuses on social networking, and not so much on compatibility or relationships. Most of the profiles I encountered mentioned some sort of casual dating interaction, and that made sense to me considering how the site is set up. Not that Zoosk is seedy or presents itself as an adult dating site; more that it doesn’t take itself seriously, and therefore neither do their paying members.
Having said that, I’ve yet to communicate with anyone off of Zoosk beyond a wink, and didn’t like that their search feature automatically reverted back to what the site thought I should review. It’s a solid site with one of the fastest growing and largest membership bases in the world however, so it’s definitely worth a look if you’re willing to shell out some cash for a membership.
Adam4Adam, or a4a as some members call it, offers excellent potential for gay men wanting casual sex, no strings attached interactions or hot chat and video sessions.
You can’t beat the price (free, with a few pay-per-use options that don’t stop you from meeting other guys), and there’s no shortage of gay men on the site in most worldwide locations. Other than the normal drawbacks with meeting people for casual encounters and the limited features available on Adam4Adam, I couldn’t see any other negatives on the site. Recommended, with some caveats.
Used to be hotornot.com. When hotornot became Badoo I went from having great exchanges with real people to a very sharp contrast of literally literally NO ONE
Literally my rating was 9.7 to 9.8 badoo managed to erase my hotornot rating and set it to their standard 5 star system. Once that occurred, my rating was 2.1. On hotornot I could engage just about any girl I that I wanted to and she would reply back in chat. Real discussions
Badoo.com: I can literally click on ANY person and send them a message
Not only they don’t reply. Nobody even reads the messages. But to be sure of that I lowered my standards to EVERY UGLY BETTY on the f* site
Still a lack of EVEN READING THE MESSAGES TO THEM!
Message to UglyB: Stunning. Lets meet! : user has not read this message
Even at that I configured my account so that it even showed when I clicked on a profile. And I just started hitting every other random thugged out plus sized mom of 20: STILL NO PROFILE VISITS – NO one Trys to meet, or even visits. Maybe it’s a problem with my profile?
I set up a new one – same sh__
One of the TRICKS they will pull on you : When you attempt to login they will redirect you to a page where it LOOKS LIKE A LOGIN
Instead it’s a place to enter your own email address and password for YOUR EMAIL ACCOUNT
That way they can download your contacts and then email every other person you’ve contacted with a request to join you on a dating page.
If you’re under 35, somewhat quirky and are not looking too hard for a serious relationship, then OkCupid.com (Free) is a good choice for an online dating site. You need to upload a photo and answer a brief questionnaire to set up your profile, but then you can let the site choose matches for you or conduct your own searches. Upgrading to a competitively priced paid subscription (Est. $20 per month) buys you more features and search capabilities.

I recommend Date Hookup to anyone looking to add a free dating site to their arsenal. Its features are easy to use and the site well-populated with users. The only downfalls are that there is no way to determine what kind of relationship anyone else on the site is looking for (unless they’ve chosen to post it in their profile), and there is no instant messaging system to chat with someone anonymously should they be online at the same time as you. A solid choice.
We own this site so it is amazing… 😉
Senior People Meet provides a simple online dating space where individuals can set up a profile for free and view other singles’ profiles for free. The service is aimed at individuals aged 55 and up who are interested in dating a mature single in their own age bracket. In addition to basic biographical information, your profile on Senior People Meet can include a profile photo and several paragraphs in which you describe your interests, an overview of your personality and some information about the type of person that you are interested in meeting.
There are thousands of singles listed on Senior People Meet and the site’s free membership also allows reviews for a partner by location. Members can initiate contacts by email and send flirts or chat. Younger singles can and do use Senior People Meet but they are aware that Senior People Meet is a dating service aimed at individuals 55 and older so their membership indicates that they are interested in meeting and dating older people.
