We are all told to eat our 5 fruit and vegetables each day but as well as being . Did you know that 300 MILLION tonnes of food goes to waste each year. Some of this includes fruit grown by farmers that is not attractive enough to be purchased by the retailers. Well we think this is just wrong and so did French supermarket chain Intermarche.
Instead of sitting back and let this happen, Intermarche got creative. They decided to run a promotion on these “ugly” fruits and veg, offering free tasters of soups and juices made from them.
The customers agreed they tasted just as good as the more “attractive” fruit and veg. The fact the farmers used to throw these products away meant that the supermarket could get a great deal on it and could in turn pass these savings onto their customers.
