When Charlie Franks retired from the circus back in the 1970s he had to part with an old friend. He had been travelling the world performing with an elephant named Nita, he had adopted at a very early age. He couldn’t bring himself to sell his beloved friend so he decided he would donate her to the San Diego Wild Animal Park.

Charlie is getting old and feels that soon he will not be able to travel so he decides to pay Nita one last visit. It has been 15 years since Charlie last saw Nita but as soon as he calls out her name, you can see she remembers him.

The elephant recognises his voice and starts to come over to him. Just watching it gave me goosebumps. An elephant never forgets.
