In a released leak today, it has been confirmed that Facebook are going to introduce an easier way for people to flirt on Facebook. Soon a button will appear in the About section that will allow friends to “Ask” each other their relationship status if it is not publicly visible or has not yet been selected.

When the user click’s the button, a little box will appear allowing you to send the person a private message enquiring about their relationship status or even inviting them out on a date. The button will also allow the user to “Ask” the other if they want to get in a relationship. Note – you must first be friends with the person before you can do this.
The person being “Asked” will then be sent a notification asking them to list their relationship status with the option of this only being visible to the person sending the “Ask” request.

Facebook has never had any aspirations to be a full blown dating site so the decision to introduce the feature has been very well thought out. Keeping it just among friends is a clever idea in order that people do not get harassed by random strangers as they may do on dating sites.

Obviously the other benefit to benefit is that by more users completing their relationship status field, even if it is only visible to selected people is that it allows them to target ads even more effectively.
