World War II veteran, Jim Russell, surprised his wife Elinor for their 57th wedding anniversary, making the day one that could never be forgotten.

The two were married on May 20, 1958, which Elinor remembers as a “dark, stormy day.” They preferred to have low-key anniversary celebrations, according to their son and only went on a couple vacations over the years.

This anniversary was different.

Elinor has spent about a month in the hospital and her family wanted to do something extra special for their anniversary.

Jim told ABC News,

My kids decided it would be great to do something special for my bride, so I went along with it.

He decided to surprise her by wearing his tuxedo he used to wear to go ballroom dancing. He also brought her flowers and chocolates.

Their granddaughters did Elinor’s makeup so she would feel beautiful on her anniversary. The two ate dinner over “Jeopardy!” and “Wheel of Fortune,” their favorite shows.

Elinor stated,

Being in a hospital bed, you get bored so when they came in, it made me smile like the younger days when we were dancing.

She described her anniversary as “wonderful” and obviously had a one she won’t forget.
