Be a man! Its a phrase most men have heard many times as they were growing up. The problem with the phrase is what it actually implies. It develops into negative destructive meanings. We have constructed an idea of masculinity that makes young men feel like they need to prove themselves to each other. When they are younger and before this message started to be drummed into them, guys are close and share everything with each other. When they get a little older they wear a mask and hold back their feelings. These feelings are then internalised and build up inside.
This can lead to anger issues which can turn into acting out and aggression. This can then even lead to depression and even worse…
You could share this if you think it is a message worth sharing.
