After carrying a child for nine months, the day their life begins becomes a miracle. London-based photographer Jenny Lewis, who recently released the book “One Day Young.”
In the book, there are 40 pictures of newborn life, held by the women who will share a lifetime of love with their perfect miracles.
Lewis shot the new mothers within 24 hours of their babies being born, aiming to capture the beauty of motherhood.
They emotionally and physically embrace their own tiny, unknowable offspring.
These captured moments are incredible to witness.

Lewis said in a press statement, “My aim was to capture the extraordinary bonding, warmth and strength between mother and infant.”
“In fact, the whole range of amazing emotions felt at that time, as the mothering instinct kicks in.”

Each photo was shot in the mother’s own homes, adding a level of intimacy Lewis couldn’t have found in a studio.
These mothers can enjoy their new gifts of life as they come home for the first time.
The women featured live around Lewis’ Hackney, London, neighborhood and come from all walks of life.
Lewis says photographing them reshaped her outlook on childbirth and mothering.
