Love Yourself and the Rest Will Follow
Despite the prevalence of self-help guides out there advocating that in order to achieve true happiness in life you need to love yourself, it is quite apparent that not too many people are taking them at their word. (or taking the time to follow their advice!)
At RelationshipSurgery.com we are strong believers in the idea of self- love and would encourage everybody to start embracing the concept, whatever their age or situation. Self-love can be the most protective armour as we make our way along life’s (often turbulent!) highway and can often be the only way we can ever be truly at ease and content within ourselves. The kindest thing we can do for ourselves is to appreciate, nurture and respect ourselves and, as in any relationship, these behaviours can only come from a place of love.
Often people can be so busy trying to please other people that they ignore the importance of pleasing themselves. Only once we can love ourselves can we be the best person we can be, and only then can we offer our love completely.
RelationshipSurgery.com has put ten inspirational reasons together as to why it’s so important to embrace a little bit of self-love!
1. You can’t give love to another without first loving yourself
In order for you to get to a place where your heart can be truly open to the idea of welcoming another, you need to experience self-love and all that comes with it. You cannot expect yourself to give time and energy to someone else if you are not prepared or willing to give some to yourself.
2. You can’t expect to receive love from others without giving it to yourself
If you can love yourself even with your flaws and imperfections then you will be able to love others so much easier. What you learn to accept from yourself you can accept in others and what you can love in yourself you can love in others.
“You, yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe deserve your love and affection.” Buddha
3. You can stop worrying about what other people might think about you
Once you start loving yourself you can stop minding about others opinions of you. It is really none of your business what other people might think of you, you are simply living your life the best way you know how and you need not waste your time stressing over their opinions.
4. Only you can be your TRUE love
You are the only one who can have full complete control over you and as such you are the only one who can have true compassion for yourself. Once you accept that you cannot expect others to love you more than you love yourself and equally that you cannot control it, you can experience the freedom that comes with the realisation you do not NEED to worry about how much someone else might love you because ultimately that is YOUR job!
5. You will have a friend for life
As friends and boyfriends come and go, you can rest assured in the knowledge that you will always be there for you! Once you love and appreciate yourself you can relax in and enjoy your own company and so will never feel alone or lonely. You will be your own best friend and can give yourself just what you need because you will know exactly what that is!
6. To love yourself is to take care of yourself
Perhaps the best possible reason for learning to love yourself is that it encourages you to take good care of yourself. You will be conscious of making the right decisions to ensure your long-term health and happiness
7. Love yourself and others will follow
Like moths are drawn to a flame, so people are drawn to others who radiate the contentment and serenity that comes with self-love.
8. To love yourself is to lose self-doubt
Just as when you love another and life suddenly seems rosier, when you start to love yourself your perception of yourself changes for better. You stop the feelings of self-criticism and self-doubt and replace them with self-pride. You focus instead on your good qualities stop wallowing in your short comings.
9. With self-love comes confidence, belief and assurance
And with such qualities comes the strength to pursue your own path, set your own boundaries and stand firm in your won ground. You will stop any ‘people pleasing’ behaviour and start doing things because they make YOU happy.
10. It’s never too late to love yourself
You will be with you forever so it’s never too late, or indeed too soon, to start falling in love with yourself and experiencing and enjoying all the wonderful benefits that come along with a bit of self-love!
